This has been one of my favourite quotes for years; I just never realized how true it would become for me. And even though, I myself do not feel totally normal, I miss my former self a great deal, and am in quest of the spontaneous and enthusiastic woman I used to be, the good news is that I am again experiencing normal days. Certainly not days completely void of pain and sadness, that seems to be a thread that runs alongside at all times, but days that I am able to start embracing and looking at as treasures. Days filled with regular life stuff like optometrist appointments, bathing the dog, birthday celebrations, stitches at the hospital, driving kids to piano lessons and football games, playing with my grandchildren.......... Not very long ago, I thought I would never reach this place again.

Normal day, let me be aware of the treasure you are. Let me not pass you by in quest of some rare and perfect tomorrow. One day I shall dig my nails into the earth, or bury my face in my pillow, or stretch myself taut, or raise my hands to the sky and want, more than all the world, your return. - Mary Jean Iron

Thanks for poem, Hollyhock. It resonates with me as well. I miss my old self, too.

Well said nellie (staying true to your vision is key!) :w:

Some quotes I shared with a member but forgot to post here:

The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself. ~Friedrich Nietzsche

If you keep doing things like you've always done them, what you'll get is what you've already got. ~Author Unknown

Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it - even if I have said it - unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense. ~Buddha

Those who stand for nothing fall for anything.  ~Alexander Hamilton

Emancipate yourself from mental slavery. None but ourselves can free our minds. ~Bob Marley

It takes more courage to reveal insecurities than to hide them, more strength to relate to people than to dominate them, more "manhood" to abide by thought-out-principles rather than blind reflex. Toughness is in the soul and spirit, not in muscles and an immature mind. ~Alex Karras

Lovely quotes Mel. Here's one that I just found this week:

'Do not go where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail...'

Ralph Waldo Emerson

Thanks Coach Mel:

I think this is from Redemption Song? A fine title, and one to aspire to.

People are made to be loved and things are made to be used.
The confusion in this world is that people are used and things are loved.

(I don't have a credit for this. Someone posted it on my Facebook page today.)

Be the type of woman
that when your feet hit the floor each morning
the devil says,
"Oh Crap, She's Up."

No one can drive you crazy unless you give them keys.
