Looking at both healthy and unhealthy patterns of recovery, IMO it is easy to get caught up in the “mechanics” of recovering properly (which will be unique in some ways and similar in others). The thought of “recovering properly” oozes with my core issues of seeking validation outside of myself. That internalized “haunting” of not being good enough can make any moment suspect. I think viewing “self”, as objectively as one can, through some window of time, provide a better perspective of recovery. A “time frame” gives the opportunity to evaluate the “trajectory” we are on, rather than momentary ups or downs. The mechanics of recovery provide the method for discovering who we are and allow us the ability to chose who we want to be.
