Wow. I'm really benefitting from RN in so many ways. Twenty-two months since discovery and after exploring many avenues for understanding and healing, RN certainly tops the list. I'm just starting on "The Sexualized Mind" in the Partner's Workshop and began reading "He Danced Alone". Wow. I recognize so many similarities in my partner as I read Jon's story. It so candidly depicts his internal experience and opens a doorway into his innermost thoughts, removes some mystery from it, in a way. Being a psychotherapist myself, and my partner having such a fascinating story, we have talked at length about what the experience of being a sex addict is like. Some of those conversations have been quite triggering for me. I'm finding myself a little triggered by reading Jon's story now too, but in a somewhat different way.

His wife mentioned in the Foreword that it was originally written as an erotic story. I sense that tone still in some areas; one that stands out is referring to his penis as a "tool". It was also difficult to read about all of his clients that he "fell in love" with, telling each of them he had never done that with a client before, as a manipulation tactic. My partner has done things of a similar vane. It pains me to think about. I stopped reading and began this post after the next line: That it was especially meaningful to those with a history of sexual abuse. Real, but ouch. That's enough reading for me, for tonight.
