My husband is an SA/PA in successful recovery. Some of the things he's dealt with through the process of getting sober are sports/testosterone addiction and anger. I'm guessing these are all fueled by similar brain chemical "cocktails". Can anyone recommend some podcasts, videos or articles on how these are linked?

I can’t recommend any videos or articles because it’s not a topic I am familiar with. However, I would be wary of “switching” addictions or “poly addiction” where people substitute addiction for another or develop addiction-like behaviours. For my husband it was alcohol, food, gaming and workaholism. After quitting he also went through a phase of compulsive spending. The spending stopped early on. The eating is getting better. The workaholism is much improved but it’s easy to fall back into.

Your husband very probably hasn’t developed adequate life management skills hence the addictive behaviours. People who are addiction-prone also seek out “intensity”. Hence with my husband, his workplace was always on the brink of collapse if he didn’t step in to save it. Of course, that was not the case but it kept him in a state of fever pitch intensity.

I agree that addiction is a very complex set of issues. If you haven’t done so already, Your Brain On Porn website has some good videos that explain PA and the brain chemistry.
